The extra VRAM is a good investment but I'd look at MSI or Sapphire - the Gigabyte 300 series aren't as good as I'd like to comfortable recommend them. Now - the main culprits are the 390 and 390X but I still have a strange feeling about the 380 from Gigabyte :/

Why exactly are you hunting for a R9 380 for 1440p 144Hz gaming?

That aside, as said in my vRAM guide... ALWAYS get the higher vRAM card unless it breaks the card somehow (the only example of this I've ever witnessed is the GTX 880M).

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

880m? huh? what happens to that one? (Asking since I almost got a lappy with such a creature in it)

Skim this thread.

Summary: 880M MXM 8GB formats are all throttle-prone, overheating, crash-prone, disgusting pieces of hardware that nVidia dared ask for money for, and when it was reported to them that many issues existed, they claimed they would check it, played for a night, discovered it was throttling like crazy, decided the gaming experience was not ruined, and then vanished off the face of the earth and then launched 900M series about a month later, effectively sweeping it under the rug. ASUS models used 4GB MXM 880Ms (with custom PCB designs) and did not have the same throttling/overheating/crashing issues, but those were the only forms in existence (unlike 680Ms with 2GB and 4GB variants, 870Ms/970Ms with 3GB and 6GB variants, and 980Ms with 4GB and 8GB variants).

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

So I essentially dodged a bullet with the 880M laptop :D

nVidia is the white haired guy and you're the black haired guy.

Well it seems like 380s are cheaper than 290s, correct me if I am wrong.

Very... and they're also much weaker. It's not even a competition.
