Anyone have suggestions/tips/tricks for building pc under desktop?

FrizL

I am still collecting parts to build my new pc. I just got an executive desk given to me that is about 71" long and 36" deep. PLENTY of room to either build a pc in a case and keep the pc on my desk, OR build it as part of the desk and make all those wires disappear. Options, options, options.

As always,

Thanks for any info given.

I'm sure you've already seen this, but Linus made a video recently about building a PC into the bottom of your desk.

Yes, while it had some good info (ie, make sure the frame is facing the right direction), I was hoping for some advice or tips from someone who has built, owned, and operated. Any issues that may arise over time, construction of the pc, fallbacks compared to a case? Those type of issues.

Keep any components with moving parts far away form your legs. Keep cables tight and neat. Secure parts as well as possible.

i have built one, and here are my experiences

The first part is components finding a graphics card (for me) that could have brackets fitted took weeks, the motherboard, psu, and drives were easy though.

If your going to liquid cool your cpu check vibrations coming from the pump, my original nzxt one did and was only amplified through the table, in the end i swapped it out for a low cpu cooler.

Cable's are SO important, you must take into account lengths and ensure you have some way of keeping all the cables attached to the desk

And lastly, ensure that the components are protected, my desk has an acrylic sheet covering it so you cant touch the components, trust me last thing you want to do is bang your knee into  your graphics card, mobo etc.... and break it

overall there are great fun to build, but dont expect it to be quick, took me 3 days of solid work just on the cables

good luck :)

Thanks. That's awesome info right there. The executive desk I got has a divider in the middle that will separate me from being able to hit anything. I'm gonna splurge and get some cable mod custom sleeved cables.
