I was simply curious as to whether anyone here had purchased the brand new Amazon Fire Tab that's retailing for an interesting price of $49.99.

If so I was looking for a basic review from a forum member as to how general usability is as I'd like to pick up a 2 of these one for general video consumption on road trips and the other to use in home automation projects I'm working on ....

I realize they just started shipping out which is why the XDA forum for it is empty at the moment but it wont be long before there are a loads of custom Android roms to flash.

Thanks for any input

It's a $50 tablet.

Like, it works, it's not very great, its thick, but, it works. I don't have one, but I've had a few cheap tablets. Most have horrible screens, but I'd imagine, from Amazon, this one will be a tad better.

Video consumption.

Hope you like Youtube Web Mobile.

Yeah, I meant as in downloaded content for kids, or streaming from my PLEX server or I suppose on occasion YouTube but it is an android tablet with an Amazon Rom on it which means getting Google Apps to work will be extremely easy.

I probably should've specified in that regard, I've used a few cheapo tablets over the years as well and that is I suppose what I'm asking.

A) Is the screen usable, I know it not going to be Samsung Amoled Qaud HD level stuff that I've used but is it not abysmal?

Second, is the processor able to do basic stuff like YouTube video decoding without have any issues?
