how to setup a virtual machine ?

i got windows 10 and i want to setup a virtual machine to try out linux and some other stuff, maybe even try and get a copy of windows 98 :P either way how would i go about this ?

my laptop- toshiba satelite p850, cpu- i7-3630qm ram- 8gb 1600mhz hdd- 1tb 5400rpm gpu- Nvidia gt630m 2gb

first, get VMware or virtual box. then get the operating system you want in ISO version. then, follow a guide on the internet on how to configure the specific software you are installing. Usually, Vmware will tell you what buttons you need to click to install the OS properly.
