Hello,

My PC is getting crazy since a few months ago. It started to shut down when I just opened any 'modern' game (Borderlands 2, Fallout New Vegas), but it didn't happen always -sometimes it let me play.

After it shut down it had troubles to power up, I had to phisically unplug and plug the power supply, then it could start (with some luck).

After that, I only could play if it was in a very low resolution (600*800 and so).

These past two weeks it has stopped to let me play: it shut down each single time I tried, no matter the resolution.

And right now, it doesn't start by any means. When I do the unplug and plug thing and press the power button it tries to start (the CPU fan makes a little movement) but it remains dead.

I've tested my power supply with one of those little testers (the cheap analog one) and it appears to be ok.

My set up is as follows:

Motherboard MSI 970A-G43

CPU AMD FX-4300

Graphics NVidia GTS 450 (I know, it's old)

2x Seagate 1Tb HDD

Power supply B-Move 600W

Any ideas? If you tell me it's the power supply I have no problems in buying a new one, but I don't want to spend money without knowing if it will solve the problem...

Thank you!

I want to say it sounds like the GPU is the issue but the power issue makes it sound like the PSU might not be helping either.

Do you have a different card you can try in the system?

Also what OS are you running? Are the two drives in any kind of RAID config or are they independent?

This may sound stupid, but I have made this mistake before.

Is your power supply turned on or off :P

LOL it is on.

I've checked that. But the weird thing is that I didn't change anything between steps - that is, it's plugged the same way it was when it worked fine.

I haven't any other graphics card :(

So you'd recommend me to update both the graphics and the power supply?

I'm running W7 x64, and the HDDs are independent.

Thank you!

Even when it apparently works fine, according to the tester? All LEDs light on (the ones that are supposed to) and the psu appears to work.

well , maybe u have problem with monitor???

By monitor you mean the screen?

Nope, it's all right. It's the system that doesn't start... no fans spinning, no lights, no beeps... nothing. But with the tester the psu seems to be just fine.

I hope it's not the motherboard... :/

Thanks!

I have some news!

I've tried changing the psu with an old one and it powers up normally. I didn't let it boot up and everything, but it powers up!

Do you think if I buy a new psu the problem will solve, or will still have problems with games?

And wich tight-budget psu would you recommend me? I've a graphics card upgrade in mind, so I'd like at least 500 or 600W...

Thank you very much!

i will say 99 % the proplem is the PSU

buy a seasonic psu and you will be ok .

you have b-move psu

i have never heard of that brand

change your PSU with a seasonic one before it burns your system .

I would recommend you seasonic G650 650 watt

best psu on the market today .

Status update:

I've bought a new PSU (a fairly cheap one, I don't have much money right now) and every symptom has disappeared: system has booted normally, I've been able to play Borderlands 2 @ 1080 with no problems, etc.

Thank you very much for the comments and recommends!
