2.25GB DDR 400

Nvidia GT 620 1GB

 

Is it worth joining the folding@home team, or am I just wasting my time?

Every little thing helps. If you could use this as a dedicated folder you would start getting some points.

That's the plan :D. I will have the rig up as soon as I can, but it might be sporting an ATI X1600XT because the GT 620 hasn't arrived yet.

Every bit goes a long way, Hell I have a Pentium 4 folding, if I had that then sure as hell it'd be folding lol

Just an FYI - if you are getting the NVidia, don't install any ATI drivers. Then when you get the NVidia card, install their latest drivers. Swapping brands can be a pain with having to completly remove the old drivers.

The ATI drivers are already on it. Also, can I fold on XP? Sorry guys, I'm a folding noob.

Lol, the funny part is that it is just the board. I took it apart, swapped the processor, and lost most of the screws. So, it's just a board. I can fold on Ubuntu, right?

Yes, you can fold on Xp. For the drivers, just make sure you completely remove them, reboot. The uninstall the ATI card, install NVidia, install NVIdia drivers...

Trust me, it's not, I just wanted to start folding. I started looking into folding because I wondered what it was, as there is a section of the forum dedicated to it and mining, and from Linus and Slick talking about it in the WAN Show. I have a few old machines that I don't use laying around, and I want to put them to use.

You can, but as said, this will generate a lot fo heat. If you can handle it though, go for it...

Why do I think this is about a badge?

If he wanted a badge he would have to wait till the next time that the mods check the folder's status. Meaning if he quits in about a month then he won't get one but if he's still folding he will get one. But I think genuinely wants to fold.

Please do not question someone motives for joining the team to "get a badge". If that is the only reason they Fold, that is great. They are Folding, contributing to the overall solution and to the team. Good on them. If they are consistent, they will get a badge. If they drop off, it will be removed...

Exactly. I genuinely want to help out folding, and while it doesn't match the crazy 48 Core Opteron rigs and 12 Core Xeon setups, it can still contribute to a good cause.
