So being new here, I'm wanting to see if anyone can:

1) Find these parts at the cheapest prices (could be new, refurbished, or used)

2) Recommend parts that are cheaper and/or better

I have a 3K USD limit also

I would get a 5960x or a 5930k. Also I would step down a little on the psu in exchange for better parts.

False. Xeon is best for a workstation. More cores for his dollar.

What is it with new builders and case fans? Why do you feel the need to buy 4 extra ones?

Just playing around a bit I was able to make a dual Xeon, 24 thread monster, with a Titan X. Screw the 5960X.

Not accurate. Cores are not the only measure of performance.

Of course, not in all cases at all. Just comparing Xeons to i7s... Xeons trump them in rendering performance per dollar.

Sorry about that, had to do some stuff while I was away

Anyways, the reason I chose the Titan X was because of the 12 GB of VRAM for 3D rendering (since I'll be working with stuff like Unity, Source FilmMaker, the works) also would you think I should get one of the 6-core Intel CPUs rather than the 6700k quad core?

If you look at my take at your $3000 budget, I put in two 12 thread Xeons, totally 24 threads on a dual socket mobo. I know you will make use of the 12GB of VRAM (hopefully) so I did put that in as well, and still stayed under $3K.

I'll post it again so you don't have to look for it.

Ah ok thanks!

Also since you're still here, I was hoping to find a 4K monitor that would run above 60 FPS.

Ah ok thanks!

You can make some changes if you'd like, perhaps make it a bit more appealing to the eye as it's, well, not an eye sore, but that mobo with the green RAM is... But it'll kick ASS. If you make any changes run them by us so we can make sure they are good changes.

How about something like what I had with the case fans. I was wanting more of a red/black colour theme for my PC build. I was considering buying an LED strip off of Newegg.

Well I meant component wise. Sure you can add fans and stuff, kind of looks tacky IMO. An LED strip is nice, but I would get the BitFenix Alchemy 2.0 strips.
