SSD questions

So, i'm looking at Samsung SSDs because they seem to perform pretty well but there's a few questions about SSDs in general i'd like to know.

 

Does MLC vs. TLC really matter?

What should i really be looking at when shopping for SSDs?

For instance is there any real reason i should look at say Samsung's Evo drives over their Pro drives?

3 get the evo, not much different between them. Pro is more of a business grade.

One thing to add to ^ is company warranty. I doubt you will be unhappy with the 850EVO line. Companies to look at right now would be Samsung 850EVO, Crucial BX100 and MX200, Sandisk Extreme PRO and if you have the extra funds Intel.

Their firmware and flash quality is really high quality. They almost never degrade over time while other ssd makers can't say that, excluding Samsung and Sandisk and that is why you pay a premium.

 

They also have tested and working NVMe ssds in both pcie and m.2 which looks like it will be taking over from SATA and probably m.2(just my speculation)

 

From a technical point of view, if you are getting a new MOBO then a pcie/m.2 ssd is where you want to go but from a real world point of view pcie and NVMe ssds don't reduce boot times over a excellent SATA ssd, they only increase read and write speeds of data which to me is not worth the price.

My 840 Pro's (bought these for reliability and warranty) are rock solid still, 520Read/510Write on each, ALL the time, hardly any temp-wear either when I'm thrashing then with writes, and with Samsungs software, the SSD optimization its back to normal within minutes anyway.

Of course a 5 year warranty is enough, which is why i got one but it was only because the Sandisk Extreme PRO which also has a 10 year warranty, was $45 more when i went to purchase.
