Hi fellow LTT forum members,

Just curious about AMD vs Intel processors when it comes to video editing. I am aware that AMD CPUs have a high TDP so, from what I've read on here, an after market cooler would be good pairing with an AMD CPU. To be perfectly honest though I am an Intel fan, as that's what I've grown up with, I've currently got selected for my build, as you can see below in my sig, the i5 4670K. I'm just wondering, considering I'm on a budget, how well would say an AMD FX 8350 fair against the 4670K when video editing in Sony Vegas. Are there any benchmarks that show any significant performance increase with the AMD FX 8350 vs the i5 4670K?

Thanks in advance for any help guys.

Read this

But for short the FX-8350 can in some situations outperform the i5 4670K in real world situations due to having 8 cores and if you are on a budget I advise you to buy the FX-8350

Ah! Was just on there. But if I want a Sony Vegas comparison I may have to look on Youtube. Thanks anyway for your help.

You should check how optimized Sony Vegas is for multi-core but you should expect to have about the same performance in either the Intel or AMD processor with the advantage of saving some money by going with the AMD CPU

Hmm..okay. I have seen some benchmarks that favour the i5 4670K with the i5 coming out on top.

I would go with the Gigabyte board myself, but that is far below your budget.

[AMD Athlon 64 Mobile 4000+ Socket 754 | Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro nForce3 | OCZ 2GB DDR PC3200 | Sapphire HD 3850 512MB AGP | 850 Evo | Seasonic 430W | Win XP/10]

See if you can find a Gigabyte 990FX, that would be best for your price range.

You know, even if I know that a complete AMD build would be faster than an Intel build I would find myself picking the Intel build because I just prefer Intel. It may be illogical but really just prefer Intel and NVIDIA.

Haha...no. That's funny though! But it was kind of lame. For The Bin, instead of For The Win.

Okay so from a gaming side, the FX-8350 is like within margin of error within I5's at least on Windows 8 and in most games (except for wow).  The FX-8350 setup is def cheaper than the I5 and has better multitasking.  So I would def give my recommendation there.  Hope this helps :)
