hi LTT,

looking to downsize my oldie rig to a m-atx/itx, as i want a smaller rig so it won't take up much space. playing dota 2 & some old titles mainly nowadays, will it bottleneck in the future if i were to upgrade to a gtx 970~980TI to play more future titles ? currently using a 1080p monitor, in the future maybe 1440p/4k. the 4 components are pretty much what i need only. lastly, is it worth to downsize the rig as i'll probably upgrade my gpu & monitor in not a very near future ?

I ended up downsizing my cooler master cosmos rig into an mATX rig with the same amount of cooling simply by buying a smaller motherboard.

 an i5 3570 + asrock z77 extremem 4 mobo

Unless you'd like to overclock that's still fine for gaming (and you'd only need to buy a new cooler if wanted, smaller mobo and case :P)

the z77 can manage 3.8ghz on a locked 3.3ghz sandy bridge. not sure about ivy bridge

If you do choose to go to 4k on a small form factor, there is only one option:

sorry NVidia fanboys, im talking about the R9 Nano

EDIT: for the future, for that budget 750ti is fine

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

get a better CPU or GPU and dont do the watercooler, watercooling is only worth it when you have an i7 and a 980 Ti/fury x   :D

watercooler bro...

its still like 3" longer

if you can make it fit and dont mind the 100W extra TDP, go for it, but the Nano is almost exactly the same performance, is 3" shorter and 100W less TDP
