Going from AMD to NVidia help!

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

use DDU to remove AMD drivers, then swap cards and you're done.

Hi y'all

Somewhere this week I will receive my new GPU (GTX 950) and I currently have an AMD (HD 6850).

What do I need to do to replace the old one for the new one, driver wise?

I would think I just take out the AMD, plug in the NVidia, remove AMD drivers and install NVidia drivers.

Will this work or do I need to do something else / in a different order?

Thanks :)

You can remove amd drivers before putting the 950 in and download the nvidia drivers as well, then just plug in the 950, turn on the PC and click on the installer.

  1. Download and run Display Driver Uninstaller on your current HD 6850 system.

Once you run this software, remove your HD 6850 and install your GTX 950

Download and install latest GeForce Drivers

Done!

Remove the drivers but use something like @don_svetlio suggusted to wipe old drivers or there may be issues. I suffered from bluescreen after an Nvidia to AMD switch until I used driversweeper and re-did the drivers properly.

Any reason why I should use DDU instead of removing them manually?

Nvidia is an ass about it - that's why. If AMD drivers or leftovers are present Nvidia stuff refuses to work. It also screws with the AMD stuff.

- uninstall amd driver (theres utils for this, you dont have to use them, but you can to be sure, it performs a "cleaner" uninstall.)

- turn off system (use the rocker switch on your psu as well if you have one)

- unplug old GPU

- plug in new GPU

- power on system

- install nvidia driver

- reboot.

- ?

- profit.
