Hey there guys. I was wondering if this is enough to run lots of high end games at 1080p at high settings maybe?

looks good, but change the psu to an antec earthwatts

Honestly there isn't too much optimization you can do to fill in that last 30 dollars (35 with a different ram) unless you grabbed a better psu (which isn't a bad idea).

It should be fairly good on 1080p. Here is 380 benchmarks on very high settings:

Examples of better PSU's that would fit in the 650 budget include the following:

(I don't know enough about each one to recommend one over another, but all are better than the one you choose that I kept. There are other options as well.)

This build has a fairly stronger GPU in it, bit weaker CPU though, but most games don't require a high end CPU to run well

Also here's a better monitor that's IPS, your eyes will thank you $109

I don't use mail in rebates. forgot bout that it should be <$680

Why? Then it still fits your budget, and trust me when I say that is a hugely better build.

They aren't good if that's what you mean. Put it this way... The 860k is meant to compete with the Pentium and low end i3 models ONLY.

Ya, no not really, it's about 20-30% slower overall than a comparable i5, but it also costs nearly half as much as an i5, so as far as gaming goes, it's pretty good for budgets under 600 dollars, where you can get a better GPU with the money saved, I've been running a 750k for the past few years with no issue

The 860k is even closer to the comparable i5, if CPU boss is anything to go on

but will it run better or the same as mine/.?

Worse. Much worse. But the key is if it can still reach 60 FPS (as anything above it is wasted by your monitor anyways) and the answer to that I don't know. I would generally say that most games yes, but more cpu bound games no, but I haven't tested that particular cpu ever.

ahh I wish I had a bigger budget

the 860K + 290 in my build will do just fine man, if you want the i5 you'll end up with a lesser GPU, which is going to impact performance on average more, but if you're playing a game that requires a beefy CPU, the i5 is going to do better there

Also the 860k can be overclocked to further bridge the performance gap between it and the i5 4460

Also, given that zen and kaby lake are probably coming next year, if you wanted a substantial upgrade, you're going to have to get a new motherboard anyways.

This is true at 1440p, I'm not sure if it is at 1080p honestly. CPU bottlenecking is actually a thing for 1080p 60Hz in some games now a days (obviously not many, but GTA V is a huge one as is witcher 3 to a lesser extent) , and the 380 should be capable of 60 FPS at 1080p (not quite max, but very decent, high at least) anyways.

http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-bench/1911-gta-v-cpu-benchmark-4790k-3570k-9590-more

Obviously overclocking cpu's can basically remove that issue even from a 860k, but with the current build choices overclocking the cpu isn't really an option.

I won't say the i5 is a better option, as both have some issues, but the 380 build I posted is more "balanced".
