can I upgrade the CPU on this motherboard http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02560084

to anything higher and faster for gaming. I don't understand the site I think there was a typo when listing the TDP that's why I am so lost Also if I buy GTX 760 will a 550w PSU be good or will I have to get a higher one

No. According to the site, only AM3 socket works. The board doesn't have the correct chipset. And trust me, the TDP isn't a typo. Technically speaking an AM3+ processor would fit, but it's all down to whether an AM3+ processor is supported by the BIOS.

What's your current cpu?

I'm guessing a 965BE would be a good upgrade: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-hdz965fbgmbox

i really don't want to get a new mb but i was told that the TDP wont work

you dont want to risk running a power hungry chip on a cheap mobo. just but a new motherboard.

current one is AMD Phenom II X4 960T

What's your gpu? Your current cpu shouldn't have too much problem with games.

Here you go hun: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1rCn6

If this is within your budget, I'd def think about this.  However, you def have to overclock the CPU and GPU but you will get a ton of performance.  I use that exact same CPU and a not as strong graphics card and honestly, I play every game at max with AA and AF turned down all the way.  But i only play at 1080p :)

i was look at my CPU on CPU-Z and it show max TDP is 107w

You could always buy and try. If it doesn't work, get a better board.

right know a gt640 planning to get gtx 760

Yeah, it's your gpu that's the problem. Your current cpu/mobo is fine.

Upgrade your gpu and get an ssd if you don't have one already.

Also, consider the 7950 instead. It performs better, has more vram, and should be cheaper.

ok ill check out the card thx

Hey hun, the thing that I linked included the HD 7950 so keep that in mind.  However I want to point 1 thing out if you don't mind.

Most benchmarks I've seen shows the GTX 760 such as the Direct CU II does a bit better than the HD 7950 at stock speeds with GPU Boost 2.0.  You have to overclock both cards to have the HD 7950 winning, at 1080p.  But it is cheaper and def has a lil more Vram which helps with things like AA and higher resolutions :).
