Skylake/broadwell/Haswell

Go to solution Solved by NumLock21,

Skylake is worth it especially when you're coming from a very old system, like socket 775 or Sandy bridge. But for Sandy bridge users, some don't see the need for upgrade because their 2500k can be oc and still have some life in it. Getting skylake it's for the features that it brings like usb 3, nvme, sata express and more pcie lanes for. In skylake the pcie lanes from the chipset are 3.0, where as all intel platforms before that only runs on 2.0

Your very first build in 8 years then get skylake. those who say not worth is is because they have haswell so upgrading to skylake to them will not make any sense. But for you, its definitely worth it.

So I kinda maked few build for next month to buy ( I mean 1 of them :D)
I choosed Skylake.You say why ?
first of all new mobo ,that support ddr4 rams which willbe kinda good in a year or two (I dont think will upgrade this pc in next 2 years or more)
So ddr4 rams is kinda good choose in my opinions.
also i5 6600k is kinda good processor ,and think when I will need it I could OC it and stick with it littlebit longer :)
GPU nothing special just r9 380 4gb
mobo not sure smth like x170 for like 120 eur~ (that one with Kerrigan on the box :D)
why it ? its a good by some of benchmarks I saw and kinda cheapest I find with good reviews.

So what do you think is it worth to go for haswell like i5 4690 or i5 4690k (whic in full build is the same price as Skylake or mby 10 eurs less)
Or stick with new gen. ddr4 rams ,new mobo.
My build is like 893-904 eurs (jumping from day to day in that range)

Do you know anyone who owns Skylake hardware?

The reason I ask is that I would rather test drive the hardware before buying as you may find the supposed increase in speed slightly disappointing.

I have viewed few benchmarks its slightly better ,but still I think to buy it for the future :)

I take all benchmarks at face value until I've actually tried the hardware with the software I will be using all the time.  will you be using the machine for gaming?

I suggest reading this and other articles before deciding. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2765861/worth-upgrade-skylake.html

Put this "skylake, is it worth it" into google and read the many articles. The 'No' camp seem to be winning hands down.

If you already own a decent PC I suggest adding more ram if not already maxed out and spending the rest on a better GPU.

nope my pc is like 8 years old with only slightly newer gpu (gt 630),so I want a new PC

I know that its not worth it so much but why I should get like i5 4690 isntead of new fresh overclockable i5 6600k (price almost the same)

why ddr 3? when ddr4 in like year or two willbe like main rams like now ddr3 vs ddr2 (I have ddr2 :D)

Aren't LGA 2011 / 1150 good enough? If you were serious you'd buy a Xeon CPU ;)

I still suggest you do some serious reading before deciding on Skylake.

Right now you'll spend a fortune on DDR4 for no real benefit. Buy DDR3 for now, and sell it when DDR4 becomes mainstream.

Although it's your own money, so if that's what you want...

As for Skylake itself, I'd buy it in a heartbeat over Haswell, just because.

I have desiding it for past two months :)

first was liek g3258+950 build (like 600 eurs)

then just for fan i7 4790k+980 build :D but was like much over budget

then goes i5 like 4690+r9 380 and its like 895 eurs

then I foudn out new xeon is good like e3-1231 or e3-1241 and build was like 823-880 eurs

and then I start looking at Skylake:

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-6600K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-4690K/3503vs2432

here what you suggest me to look at google :)

My pic died, so today I just built my sky lake rig.

I will be testing it over the weekend, I could test some specific things out if you think it will help.

I got the asus VIII hero mobo with 16gb ram and a 6700k,

I know not ideal but It's all I could afford pre-wedding.

A little knowledge is very dangerous

with gpu a higher number does not mean its better, the innards are important too. 290 is faster than 380. 380 is basically a 280 or 280x (can't remember which) and 390 is basically a 290 with 8gb of vram. Getting a 6600k also need a cooler. The cooler is not included. Lock cpus comes with coolers.
