Dead HP Labtop

Ok, so I've had this HP labtop a relative got me a couple years back, and actually is kinda ok. A couple months ago, it blue screens during an update and always say "Automatic Repair". I try changing boot order, enabling legacy stuff, blah blah. I have a Win 7 install USB but when I try to change boot order the vegatable just restarts. No idea what to do. Please help. P.S. It has Windows 8.

Try reflashing the bios? Resetting them using a battery pull and trying a different hard drive? You can always put the original HDD back in.
