ive got a good deal with a powercolor r9 280x  3gb gddr5 384bit. its price dropped by $100. should i grab it?? is this gpu good? 

i will be building my first pc in december. and i dont have any parts yet. if i buy this GPU, it'll be the first part ill have. and the deal is up until october only.. 
i'll pair it with an i5 and 8gb ram.

Yes, it is a bit better then a GTX 960

It's essentially a rebranded/refreshed HD 7970 but still a strong performer by today's standards. Is about equivalent to an R9 380 and GTX 960, so if it costs quite a bit less than those, it's a good buy IMO. ;)

A R9 380 is a improved R9 285. The 380/280x is quite a bit stronger then the 960 in a lot,of games.

Yes, the 380 is stronger than the 960 overall, but they are all in the same performance/price range, was my point. ;)

380 is 10-15% ahead usually. The few cases where they tie are Nvidia titles :)
