Ducky DK9008G2 Pro Mech Keyboard with PBT Caps - MX Cherry Blues

Intro:

Around 2 months now I bought myself  Ducky DK9008G2 Pro Mechanical Keyboard with the PBT caps. By no means would you class this as a gaming keyboard but as I type more than I game it was a sensible choice for me.

Packaging:
Here are some pictures of the packaging that it comes in. First thing... damn this keyboard is heavy.. I mean so heavy! It's basically a cricket bat.

Build and Feel:
You know how I said how it feels like a cricket bat? Well it's not a poorly constructed one, the keyboard feels solid, it has to be without question the most solid, quality reinforced keyboard I've ever had my hands on. It's also worth saying that it took me a while to adjust to this keyboard. At work I use a HP 2560p laptop, when docked I used a Apple Keyboard this was because they keys on a Apple keyboard are identical to feel and spacing as when I work on my laptop out of the dock. When changing to the Ducky I found that I would strike the keys hard and bottom them out every time. Having MX Blues the actuation click followed by a bottoming out click was less that desirable top the people in the office around me, I also found the curve to the keys to be unnatural but I adjusted to both these things over time and now thoroughly enjoy the typing experience the Ducky gives me.

Pros/Cons:
I opted for Cherry MX Blues, I can't call these a con because I chose them but those who are thinking about them, they are... obnoxious. I would however call the WASD keys with the LED's behind them a con. On this keyboard with absolutely no features apart from being a mechanical keyboard its just unnecessary, they seem out of place. They keypuller that came with my box is the wire style as well which I am not a fan of, I would have much preferred the ring/prong style

However after spending now 2 months with the keyboard I am well adjusted and all I can say is, if i'm not using it i'm missing it. It's become that much of an enjoyable experience. I like it's simplicity, I like that it doesn't have a heap of extra buttons for me to push, I like that it has a super classic simple layout and I love the tactile feel of the blues.

Final thoughts:

post-28719-0-49323000-1376377147.jpg

I bought this for work, and only for work, no gaming to be done at all. I am looking at a Corsair Mech for a new gaming build and there I will be after the scrolling volume wheel and the macro keys and the selected LED light up option for individual keys. But for its purposes this keyboard is great, however it is almost strictly a keyboard that was built for processing. If you want to game on it I feel it will leave you falling short, even as an all-rounder it lacks basic media control functionality however.

If its a sit down and smash out some words keyboard you're after and not a "wwwwwwwwwwaaaaassddwwwwwwwwwwwsdawwwwww *space* *space* *shift* *windows* ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh dam" keyboard that you're after I feel this is one hell of a keyboard.

Also I received the Ducky leather wrist rest, its build well but isn't as soft as I would hope. Maybe in a year I won't be able to live without it but at the moment I can't validate the $30AUD I paid for it.

Nice, but the KB is fully capable when it comes to gaming, you do NOT need Red for that. I have the four main switch types, as well as a Green, and  a couple of KB's with Topre hybrid dome/spring capacitive switch types and I game just fine on all of them.....for games like UT3 and Quake 3 Arena. Try for games, the Blue is just fine for gaming, only a small minority have issues with double tapping or spamming with Blue, I certainly don't.....but then, I'm not that good gamer, that's why I over compensate with better KB's and hardware.

Awesome color scheme with the keycaps.

That keyboard is beautiful...

I agree, the keyboard looks great.  I don't really game alot anyways so this may be a good keyboard for me too.

*edit:  oh, but the entire keyboard does not have LEDs?... I may need something else then.

The wire style keycap puller is actually much more preferred amongst the keyboard enthusiasts, as the ring style ones are only limited to removing 1x1 keys and usually scratch/bruise ABS keycaps.

The blue/gray dyesub caps looks really good. ^_^

I wasn't trying to say that the MX blues wouldn't suit for gaming, more that the keyboard doesn't offer anything 'gamer' aside from the WASD keys being LED backlit. It certainly could be used for gaming no problems but if you were looking for macro buttons or any other features to aid a gaming experience this keyboard doesn't really have too much on offer.

Oh, OK then......that cleared things up. I'm so liking the blue dye-sub PBT key caps, that's why I'd originally wanted to get one.....but the local distributer in my neck of the woods is more focused on DS2/3 and Ducky Zero/Zero Shine, I did managed to get a DK9087G2 Pro TKL with white PBT key caps, but it was from a used section of the local tech forum.....and fortunately, it was a Cherry Black switch KB which is fast becoming my fave Cherry switch. Anyway, love those blue dye-sub key caps, I was so taken by pics of it that when I'd gotten my Topre, I set about getting a set of blue dye-sub key caps....snagged a set of yellow ones as well when I scored my HHKB Pro2......quite similar shade of blue to yoursI think.
