Opinions on This

Looking to upgrade from my current PC and this is what I've come up with.  Looking at this in USD, for a max budget of about 850, storage and OS already taken care of (coming from my current PC) and this build will be for games, VMs, and Blender (3D modeling/animating).  I put this together with room for another R9 390 eventually when I feel that it starts to slow down, so if you want to change something make sure I can add another card later.  Also, 8 gigs, due to the VMs I may add another set of what I have there below when I can, but it should be enough to start.

Not really intending to overclock, is it necessary to get a better cooler for it (supposing I stick with the 9370) if I'm not going to overclock?

I was guessing the AMD octacores would be a good balance between gaming and rendering, plus I could really put the cores to use.  Would a Xeon equal the 9370 in gaming?

Thank you, was just going to ask what was wrong with the Gigabyte's 390 but you answered that question, except, what's wrong with a voltage lock?  I'm not intending to overclock it.

Why does it require 200 for a board?  That's getting a bit steep for my budget, and I asked this to The Cool n00b already but what is wrong with the stock cooler if I'm not going to overclock?  Would it be a massive waste if I didn't take advantage of overclocking?

The 9370 is just a factory overclocked 8350 and the 8350 is the same processor as the 8320E,8320,8370E,8370. So you need a higher end motherboard with a power delivery system that can handle the high power consumption of the overclocked 8350 which is the 9370 and if you don't use the correct motherboard then it could literally catch fire.

I was guessing the AMD octacores would be a good balance between gaming and rendering, plus I could really put the cores to use.  Would a Xeon equal the 9370 in gaming?

It comes with a liquid cooler, so disregard what I said.

True dat, an overclocking-oriented motherboard will be best.

Can either of you edit my list and get a motherboard you'd recommend in there?  I can't afford to go much higher in the price.  Is there anything better about the 9xxx series over the 8xxx besides the 9xxxs being an overclocked version of the 8xxxs?  If there is no difference besides speeds, I'm thinking I should downgrade to an 8xxx series chip, which one of those would you recommend?

Nope the only difference is the speed so I would do this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zHndhM and the motherboard and cooler on this list are very capable of handling a high overclock and you will save money. I did change your case only because it has better build quality and it has better air flow. As far as the disk drive there are many external ones on Newegg and Amazon.

Thanks, but does that board support 2400 speed memory? Or will it just do 2133 since that's the fastest it says when I click it. Though 2133 is plenty fast. Also, is it entirely necessary to get that cooler since I don't plan to overclock, or should I be overclocking?

Microcenter has the 9590 for 199 bucks, lil faster and 70 buck cheaper. They have cpu/mb combos but only with boards rated for 140 watts and under :(

Thank you, was just going to ask what was wrong with the Gigabyte's 390 but you answered that question, except, what's wrong with a voltage lock?  I'm not intending to overclock it.

If a card is voltage locked, you cant change the voltage while overclocking, thus limiting you to  the stock voltage and only a small overclock

I was guessing the AMD octacores would be a good balance between gaming and rendering, plus I could really put the cores to use.  Would a Xeon equal the 9370 in gaming?

A xeon 1230/1231 v3 would be better for gaming, it has better single core performance, 4 cores-8 threads, it is an i7 without the igpu enabled.

FX series cpu can not compete even with some i5's for the time being, unless it has all cores utilized, and still will not perform as good as an i7

The VRM of regular boards are to weak and will burn... There is also no cooler included unless you buy the version with water cooler included!

4+1 VRM board with a FX-9590 and you see why it ends bad right? The board was made for a 95W not 225W! :P

6+2 and 8+2 is made for 125W FX-83X0 but those cost around 100-150$ :D (also best option if you want a AMD CPU...)

I was guessing the AMD octacores would be a good balance between gaming and rendering, plus I could really put the cores to use.  Would a Xeon equal the 9370 in gaming?

Xeon has extra threads(It's basically has 4 extra mini cores for multitasking) so it's a great option for rendering and you really won't need 8 cores for rendering and the FX technically aren't even true octa core CPUs. Also the Xeon is the equivalent of a i7 so it's way better than the 9370 in gaming, even a i3 could give it a run for it's money depending on the game.

Any particular Xeon you'd recommend?
