Hi, thanks for reading

I am currently upgrading my current pc the bios is on its last legs and the graphics are 7.5 years old and would apreciate any feedback you all my have

I am keeping my mass storage (ssd and mechanical)

Case (HAF X) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-203-CM

PSU (RM 850) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-155-CS&tool=3

May keep my CPU cooler depending on opinions http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CWCH60-Performance-Radiator-Liquid/dp/B004MYFOE2/

OS naturaly

For new hardware it should be noted

I could not care less about physical appearance my pc lives under a desk in a corner out of mind and out of sight

I am currently running a single 1080p monitor and may upgrade to a 1440p one in the future

I primarily use my pc for gaming, youtube and other unproductive forms of procrastination

I am in the UK

I would like my system to be as quiet as possible but i am limited by a budget of approximately £600-800

I am currently considering somthing along the lines of

i5-6600K 3.9GHz + Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI Intel Z170 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-021-GI&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=3069

MSI GeForce GTX 970 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-259-MS

I have no idea about what ram is worth getting and what is not

any and all input apreciated i will probably be purchacing within the next month or so.

With the GPU, I'd go the AMD route. They seem to be stepping their game up so something like a R9 390 would do good.

My Gaming Rig;  Motherboard - ASUS Maximus VI Hero | CPU - Intel i5 4670k @4.5Ghz 1.25v | GPU - GIGABYTE GTX 980 @Stock | RAM -  16GB Corsair Vengeance @1866Mhz | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i | Storage #1 - Samsung 840 Basic 250GB SSD | Storage #2 - Sandisk II 480GB SSD | Storage #3 - 2TB 7200rpm 64mb HDDPSU - Corsair HX750 | Case - Fractal Design R4 |

i'm assuming you already have the other hardware so i've put together this build option. if you have 850w, that will be sufficient for x2 980's in sli. x2 980's in sli will play 1440p very very well. a single 980 will max out most games at over 60 fps at 1080p

edit:

the corsair h60 is sufficient to cool a 6600k cpu so don't worry

You were indeed correct, just need the motherboard and bits, thanks for sugested build :)

check out my cpu and gpu overclocking guides so that you can get the most out of your build; links are in my forum signature. the asus 980 strix above comes with a 1.18 mhz core clock out of the box, but you can overclock it much higher than that

edit:

a friend of mine has the same asus strix gpu above in SLI (x2) and it works very well at 1440p

it is an option,  dont ati just rebrand a some of their previous gen cards as the new mid range cards?

They aren't rebrands like the 200 series was, the 390 has higher base clock speeds and 8gbs of VRAM compared to the stock 290.

Also it's a faster card overall than the 970.

Plus maxwell might not have full DX12 support. we'll have a better idea once Deus Ex Mankind Divided comes out, it's supposed to have DX12 support at launch.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

honestly i would prefer to avoid going sli or xfire i had a bad experence in the past involving sli turning off for no dam reason and bad scaling.

I would rather avoid getting a graphics card that pushes me right up to the cost right up to the limit of my budget, more money for games for the pc :D

thanks for the vid, ill check it in the morning as i do have work in 6 hours :/

Crossfire in particular and sli have gotten a lot better over the years, most of the AAA titles support it well. and you basically have to do it for proper 4k gaming.
