Why is this switch cheap? Does it matter?

Go to solution Solved by QueenDemetria,

So if I did need to buy a 48 port one id need this then? http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-ProCurve-2810-48G-48-Port-Gigabit-Ethernet-Managed-Switch-J9022A/221881393367?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D32933%26meid%3D58d034d1e5a04c34bd4285dff9ea8e48%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dlo%26sd%3D262049487340&rt=nc

The reason for 48 ports in a hope is that I have about 35 lines in the house and 1 for my pc and one for my nas and 3 for some other things. ATM we have a 24 port switch then everything else in the modem and another 10/100 siwtch

That would work if you need 48 ports

Here is what I am doing. 200Mbs Internet connection.

Modem-PfSense box- This http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-PowerConnect-2848-48-Port-Managed-Gigabit-Switch-/262046276418?hash=item3d032cdb42- Cat 6 to all devices.

WIll this work?

That switch is cheap because its an auction. It starts low and people bid till its high. It should work I guess, I don't know your network set up(and intended use) so I don't know for sure.

Ok. I am looking at something like that.

I am getting this to connect to my pfsense box for network anti virus and just stuff in general. I would have on my pfsense box my modem and this and my Nas. Then all my wifi and pcs connect to this.

Would this work and would you get this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-PowerConnect-3348-48-Port-Gigabit-Switch-w-Rackmount-Ears-/161822151760?hash=item25ad5a1450

I wouldn't get that, since the ports are only 10/100 and I don't really see the need for it. PFsense should have a built in firewall, and for plugging in your otherthings I would just get a switch with the amount of ports you need.

Seems like it would work, but I don't really know what prices these usually go for so its up to you if its worth or not. Since its used it may be damaged in some way.

Especially since it say "Tested to power on and NO OTHER TESTING has been conducted."

Oh ok. All the ports are 10/100 I get it. Didnt read lol. So I already have a 24 port 10/100 switch so ill get a gigabit switch for pfsense to switch and to my pcs and other pcs on the switch.
