Advice on a E5-2640 V2

Ok so I do a lot of video editing, rendering and 3D modelling as well as gaming so i need a lot of cores and ram and all ive been able to find is a E5-2640 V2 8 Core 16 Thread CPU. I just want to know if it will be able to handle gaming and support my 970.

it wont be the best for gaming as it has a clock speed of 2ghz even lower than a pentium

but it will be AWESOME for rendering
