I'm building a new PC but I'm really trying to figure out... do I save money and get the i5 4690k or the i7 4790k?

ALL I'll be doing is gaming & streaming on twitch. Don't plan on video editing or photo editing or anything that really requires Hyper-Threading.. but couldn't I benefit from HT when I'm streaming/gaming or is HT not used when running a game / xsplit or other broadcast software??

Just lookin for some feed back.

Also.. feed back on

I see GREAT reviews about that pro gamer board and then the ROG board has some good reviews but also a lot of bad an i'm really eh about buying something if it's just gonna break on me in a month or so an I'll have to RMA it an deal with the hassle.

Any suggestions on all this?

I say i7 and the H97 board. you might now be able to overclock that much but hey, 8 threads are amazing for streaming (I might be slightly biast because I have a 4770K in my machine happily streaming and playing games without a hitch)

I am a member of the PCMasterRace. I am terribly sad to announce that I own a PeasantStation 3 Super Slim. it's in a drawer away from my glorious PC.

The Core i7 is, at most, going to be about 30% faster. People have this notion that it suddenly becomes vastly superior to a Core i5 when you stream, but that's really not the case.

Also, if you use GPU acceleration for the streaming, then it adds very little CPU load.

4790K + H97 = fried board.

K chips go with Z boards

It won't be a fried board unless you increase voltage, especially if the board has some sort of VRM heatsink

Not all have though - mine has a tiny metal heatsink - the size of a sticky note.

I am running my 4770K on a H81 board and have being doing so reliably and 24/7 for the past 4 months. no frying has occurred yet. and it's actually slightly overclocked so...I think that H97 board will be good enough.
