I'm going to get a fair bit of cash soon and im thinking it is time to upgrade my HD 5850. Should i get GTX 780 or wait until october for the AMD 9000 release? I mainly want to stick with single GPU cards and I am primarily going to stick with 1080p gaming until novemberish where i get a 1440p monitor.

At the moment I'd wait for the 9000 series first and then decide.

Wait till the 9XXX's come out to see if there are better alternatives.

At the very least, prices will probably drop.

Also, a 780 is overkill for 1080p gaming. A single 770/7970 would max out most games at 1080p.

Alright. The 9000 series is supposed to debut in October right? Are they going to debut the 98X0/97X0 first then the 99X0 after a couple of months or are they going to release all the series at once?

I know the 780 is overkill at 1080p, but im going to upgrade my monitor to 1440p later. Im only going to get enough for one or the other and I'd rather get a GPU first cause i really doubt my HD 5850 can handle 1440p.

Yes, it's expected to come out in October. I'm not sure what order they're releasing the gpus. I'm guessing higher tiered ones first.

Good thinking on the 780--it will suit 1440p quite nicely.

IIRC, it is usually the highest tier first (9970) then the others come out one after another down the line.

Alright cool. Do you think AMD's pricing is going to be better than NVIdia's? I remember they were typically cheaper.

Yes, odds are, imo, the 9970 will undercut the 780 in price. This combined with the Never Settle Forever bundle will be absolutely awesome. :D

9970 will likely be $550 and include a new never settle game bundle.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

This probably goes against everyone else; but I'd personally snatch up a 7990 ._. the prices are stupidly low right now

I was actually on the edge of just grabbing that because it was pretty much the same price as the GTX 780. But I'd rather not upgrade my current PSU. Plus the power draw would be pretty insane. Even though AMD fixed those issues about microstuttering during games, but im still a bit sceptical about it and I'd rather have a system where something like that wouldnt be an issue to begin with.

If it was $550 w/o the bundle and performs just as good as the GTX 780 its pretty much a no brainer at that point.

This is what is coming with the 9970 Never Settle Forever bundle (the new name):

The top row is the old Never Settle. It is what has already been in the Never Settle. So no, it will not be in the new ones.

The bottom row is the new Never Settle, and there are rumors that you will be able to choose the games you want, rather than be stuck with whatever they give you. An AMD tweet hinted at this by saying "The power to choose is coming. ;)" So, yeah. Not sure why people think that directly talks about the Never Settle bundle and not the 9000 series, but whatever.
