Hi, two of the four USB ports on my laptop are not working. This happened last week but I was only able to use my laptop today. My lappy is the Dell Inspiron 5521. They are both USB 2.0 and the other two that are working are 3.0. The two dead ports provide power(I know this because it lights up my mouse) but my mouse doesn't work. I went into device manager to see what I could do... There were two USB Enhanced Host Controllers but one had a yellow exclamation mark sign on it. I'll attach a snippet of my device manager's USB Controllers.post-218513-0-59556900-1441970264.png There is only one USB Enhanced Host Controller because I decided to uninstall the other. The uninstalled driver had the error Code 24. That uninstalled USB Enhanced Host Controller was named slightly different - It had the code 1E26 at the end. The driver in the snippet was provided by Intel while the other was provided by Microsoft. I've already rebooted my computer, disabled the drivers, installed different ones, and they still do not work. I think that's all the things I know about this matter.

Could you please help me in some way?

Feel free to ask me any questions about this.

Thanks for taking your time to read this post :)

how do I reinstall the driver I uninstalled?

Go to the manufacture's website and find the driver.  Its probably a assoication problem with Windows where you've managed to change some critical setting.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

use the driver CD provided with the motherboard to install drivers...

Never use the CD.  Ever.  Plus its a OEM not a Retail PC.

Well, that's weird.. When clicking on the setup.exe file for the intel drivers, it says, "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software."

So that's why it didn't let me install the driver(I stupidly tried to install 3.0 drivers when the 2,0 ports weren't working.) Well, I can't do anything now since there are no 2.0 drivers.

Intel makes the chipset for the USB controller.  But (in this case) Dell implements the chipset, meaning Dell knows it best.  The chipset you get from Dell needs the driver that Dell deploys.  This could have a impact on other components.  For example, often times USB controllers (in notebooks) will have other components attached to them.  Like media card readers, web cams, even audio devices.  Sometimes the USB controller itself may have to be adapted to accommodate these new devices for whatever reason.

The generic drivers from Intel often times will work just fine, because in reality less than 10% of devices actually have modified controllers.  But you never know if your device is one of those.  And the ones that Dell deploys will almost always have higher stability rates.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!
