Thermaltake PSUs, especially the Smart series, are bad. - the only Thermaltake PSUs worth a damn are the ToughPower Gold and ToughPower Grand Platinum. Anything else is a fire hazard.

I thought hardware only used as much power as they need? This is for the future when I add another gpu and/or a better cpu.

Why'd you get that CPU.

Why'd you get that PSU.

Could of done so much better for $850.

You could of gotten an i5 and 380... Erg...

I'm not talking about rated power - I'm talking about build quality and the fact that the PSU you bought is of the lowest possible class and can result in a fire - much like the Corsair CX series.

Then why does this psu have glowing reviews everwhere I look?

Because the people who had it blow up no longer have a system with which to complain.

Im not going to be overclocking anytime soon, so I didnt see the point.

If you're not OCing then that CPU is an even worse option than before. @ stock it's slower than an i3 by a longshot.

Yeah, almost all the reviews on newegg are good. Methinks if someones computer somehow caught fire they would use some other means to write a negative review.

I'm talking from experience. I bought one thinking the same - woefully regretted it.

This is 100% a gaming pc. I dont give a shit about anything else tbh. Yes there will be bottlenecking but I am going to get an upgrade in 4 months-ish.

So what is the most 'dire' thing needed here.

I agree. I would have expected a product recall if the power supplies are unsafe, and then they'd no longer be on sale.

Well - everything?

The CPU is not even enough to drive that GPU as it's old and the IPC is bellow that of a i5 750 - The XFX 280X has issues with overheating VRMs after prolonged gaming sessions and may result in decreased performance. It's also an old chip - a 380 would have been a much better choice. The monitor is a TN panel - meaning bad colors and overall crap viewing angles.

CPU. If this is a gaming PC why'd you get a FX6. It's far from a gaming CPU. A i3 will and would of been a much better CPU to buy. Give me a minute and I'll explain the power supply.

The CX are still being sold - but this exists.

The CX is supposed to be for PCs whose load isn't going to be that heavy; generally, games that aren't too taxing for hardware, or even simple tasks like browsing the internet.

The CX should never have gotten high-output models...

Alright. Well this will be a pain in the ass and a week wasted, but all of these companies have a solid refund policy. So what would be a complete (monitor included) build be for the same price? Thanks in advance.
