Go to solution Solved by Deagon,

But to clarify you're saying that since the card knows that this monitor does not have speakers its not going to show up in the windows sound settings? Unless the card recognizes speakers its not going to show up?

Exactly, unless the device is telling your card that it has speakers, you aren't going to be able to put sound through it.

I have a card with a DVI port, to which I've connected a DVI to HDMI connection, its an old card yet it still knows there is an adapter there and won't put sound through it, only this time because DVI doesn't support a sound signal, instead the sound is output through the HDMI port, if you could try something like this you could still get HDMI quality on the monitor and output the sound through the HDMI port (to your 3.5 connector). For me my HDMI port has a tv and all sound is output through it. Maybe this will work for you.

::EDIT::

while I'm thinking about it don't bother with VGA to HDMI the sound almost never works properly even though most adapters have a sound cord thing with it.

I have just bought a MSI GTX 970 and the way I have everything set up, I need to get audio through HDMI. My nvidia control panel shows my monitor under HDMI but when I select "Open Windows Sound Settings" it does not show up. My monitor does not have speakers so I am pretty sure that is the problem. But as I said I need audio through HDMI because of my setup. Is there anyway I can get the sound settings to recognize the monitor so I can select it? I need the audio to go through HMDI because I have all my devices (Like PC, Consoles) through a HDMI switcher then that goes to a HDMI Audio Splitter that turns that into 3.5 connection where my speakers are plugged into. So in order for my PC to have audio, I need it to go through the HDMI port. Here is pic of my problem.post-259036-0-98803500-1441843019_thumb.

unless it is plugged directly into a tv or monitor (or single adapter/connector) that it can detect speakers in (all HDMI devices send info about each other), it won't show it up there, there may be some way to force it, but if there is I've never heard of it, try perhaps plugging it directly into an HDMI TV (because it has speakers) and try setting it up and then plugging in the other devices, although this probably won't work because each HDMI device sends its own unique info to the other.

::EDIT::

too many connectors, it won't work, i had a similar issue, and it only worked when i plugged it into only 1 connector.

I have tried plugging it in directly getting rid of the splitters with the same issue being there. I plugged it into a TV that does have speakers and it works but I need it on this monitor.
