upload speed slow

Go to solution Solved by EmeraldFlame,

so my download speed is 190.42 megabits per second but my upload speed is only 11.73 megabits per second.

can someone help me

You haven't given us enough information at all. What speeds do you pay for? Consumer internet is rarely symmetrical so I would be surprised if those numbers aren't that far off from what you are supposed to be getting. Typically if you want faster internet, you need to pay for it.

Honesty: sounds normal to me.

Reality, what speeds do you pay for?

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

so its normal to have 180 megabits difference between up and down???

Depends on if that is what you pay for.  Usually you get less than 25% of your download in upload.

ISPs give you a certain download speed and upload speed.

the home user generally doesnt need much upload, so they get a lower upload speed.

this excess of upload speed is then generally sold to webhosts etc.

For normal consumer use, upload speeds are significantly lower than download speeds. You should check with your ISP which upload speed you do pay for

Case: NZXT phantom CPU:I5-4460 GPU:MSI-GTX1070 Gaming X RAM:2x4Gb-DDR3-HyperX fury MOBO:Asus Z97-P HDD:Toshiba 1Tb 7200rpm PSU:Sentey650W

same ISP, same package, same speed.

your package is "200 down, 10 up" of which the downspeed really depends a bit on how bad the wiring in your area is, the up speed is usually a bit above what it says on the box.

telenet is weird like that.

sidenote: dont switch to belgacom/proximus, they offer a higher theoretical upload speed, but their actual speeds are just plain funny at times... my grandma pays for 50/10 and gets about 1.9/0.75

then they finally changed the box xD

but yeah, i actually wouldnt see why you need more upload than that, you can literally run 4 twitch streams off of that.

i cannot confirm this, nor can i name sources, but telenet is aiming for 1.7Gbit by 2020

... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD COMPRESS THOSE THINGS!

so.. i know this guy.. and he's the only guy in my group of friends that has ever managed to kick telenet's 500GB soft cap in two days.

please dont be him.

--

if you insist, upload things overnight: after 12PM telenet doesnt count your data usage to their 500GB soft cap, just leave a pc running to get stuff uploaded.

if you're not familiar with telenet's soft cap:

their offers for "unlimited downloading" have a soft cap of 500GB per month.

but theres some slight rules:

- the cap only counts between mid day, and midnight.

- if you go over it; during these times, you'll be put on a slower speed (i dont know of the top of my head how much exactly, but its still more than most of the states get.)

- your traffic between midnight and mid day is not affected by this cap, upload and download all you want, even when you're over your cap you will have max speed at these times, neither does this traffic count towards your cap.

--

now you wonder, why this complex?

i've actually had the chance to talk to a guy that works on telenet modems, and his very simple answer was: (paraphrasing a bit)

"to stop people from doing ridiculous uploads or downloads in peek hours of traffic, and motivate them to do it at moments where the network is basicly running idle"
