I am creating a project for school and would like to know a bit more about servers.

Currently I have 2 servers for storage purposes, will I need a third sever for a proxy server or can I run it off one of the 2 storage servers that I currently have? Thanks :)

If the storage servers are based on generic OS's like Ubuntu or CentOS or Fedora or Windows or anything else, then you can run a number of services on the same machine. The problems are that now you have more services sharing the same resources, and now you have a larger footprint for possible security issues on the single OS. It is easier to lock down the machines if each one only does a single service. If your storage servers are an OS that is primarily only for storage, like unRaid or FreeNAS, you options to add proxy functionality may be limited.
