So I recently got some money I wasn't expecting, and I decided to spend no more that $100 of it on an upgrade for my PC.

My question is, which would you go for between a RAM upgrade to 16 GB (Same speed, 1600 MHz, CAS 9) this is a RAM replacement from 2x4 to 2x8.

The other option is a PSU upgrade from my 430W to a 600 or 750W. Probably going to keep Corsair so I don't have to redo my cable management.

The RAM is needed because I occasionally hit around 95-98% usage, and I'd rather like to fix that issue.

The PSU is needed because I my graphics card has 2 6-pin power connectors required, but the PSU by default only has 1, so I adapted 2 MOLEX cables to one 6-pin. However, this apparently doesn't provide the amount of power that it should, as my card needs +5% power in order to run stable at stock clocks.

So which should I get?

I'll note that I'm going to be getting both of these upgrades at some point, but can only get one now.

Spoiler

CPU: AMD 5800X

GPU: Gigabyte Aorus 3070 Ti

SSD: WD SN850X 4TB x2

MoBo: Gigabyte Aorus Master B550

Case: Fractal Torrent

PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750W

do you do rendering/video editing/cad?

if you dont then no

I do CAD for fun sometimes in AutoDesk Inventor, but that's more of a hobby. I do use almost 100% of my RAM now, so I'm definitely using it with my current use cases.

Hit 96% usage the other day in a game. Don't remember which, but my Rainmeter usage meter on my secondary monitor was reporting that.

Upgrade to a 600W PSU, 390 or 970, and 16GB of RAM if your ram usage is really in the mid-high 90s

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

Autodesk is a big one lol. I use it in my engineering class and sometimes 16 gigs dont feel enough :l

Im using rainmeter+chrome+adobe illustrator cs6 and at 50% ram and 13% cpu usage

RAM is cheap now, you can find 8GB more for around 40-50 bucks. Can you find a good PSU for around 50 bucks and have the best of both worlds?

Unfortunately, any GPU upgrade would be out of my price range at the moment, or I'd be all over that. Just doing stuff at 1080p though, so my 270X does pretty good at high to ultra in basically everything.

Newegg's Labor Day sales are really the only reason I decided to spend now, though.

XCept ram. Ram is super cheap right now so lol

But all of it's cheap. If it was just, "Yeah, that Team RAM is like, $30 below the average for it's capacity and speed." I'd be worried about that one.

Only two DIMM slots, unfortunately. Also an issue where the RAM I have, Team Zues Red, isn't really available from any retailers I use. It's all sold out.

See, I'm going to get both. But if I can get one now, why wait? More of an opinion question than anything else.
