Are HD7970 waterblocks compatable with HD 7950?

Im looking for a waterblock for an XFX HD 7950

there are a couple different flavors of this card. The one I have is the Double Dissipation variant WITHOUT the XFX logo between the fans.

also, after mining explosion, a lot of "re-certs" for replacing the 7950 was

using the 7970 PCB. denoted by the 6+8 pin on the 7950 (usually was the

6+6-pin). so in some cases the rev 2 7950 is a down-graded 7970 PCB on

reference model PCBs.

Would that mean a 7970 water block would fit?

Depends on the layout, I personally would just mount a universal waterblock on it and if the VRM and RAM is cooled by a block of metal like my HD6870 then use that.

Yeah, I have an htpc case, I'm afraid of what air cooled would do to it.

And my custom loop with dual 180mm rad is way overkill for my stock clocked fx-6300
