i5 4690K + R9 390 is a better balance of powers. No need for watercooling btw - just makes a bigger mess when it fails. Get a 212 Evo and save some cash.

Yeah or even an i5-4460 would technically be enough, then you can buy a cheaper mobo and not spend on a cooler, perhaps you could fit a 980Ti instead within your budget if you get the 4460?

Ok then. Is the i5 4690K in any way good for video editing?

Still would it benefit video editing?

P.S. I forgot to mention the purpose. So here it is: This computer is going to be used for video editing and casual gaming

Xeon E3-1231 v3 is the way to go if you're editing etc. It costs around the price or 4690k, features Hyperthreading (its power is equal to an i7-4770 without iGPU), and you can get a cheaper motherboard with it. It also doesn't require aftermarket cooler, you might wanna grab a 212 Evo just so it's more silent than the stock one.

I would definitely get at least a Radeon R9 390 as for the GPU, preferably a 390X/980/980Ti

Well, the CPU market is in a time of transition.  Skylake CPUs are out, so it is a good time to get a deal on a 4790k.  In 2-4 months, things can change a lot.  I wouldn't finalize parts just yet.  Definitely do some shopping around but just be ready to change some parts as prices change, new parts get released etc.

Also, quite often you can get some very good deals for Black Friday (if you live in North America)

i7 4790k @4.7 | GTX 1070 Strix | Z97 Sabertooth | 32GB  DDR3 2400 mhz | Intel 750 SSD | Define R5 | Corsair K70 | Steel Series Rival | XB271, 1440p, IPS, 165hz | 5.1 Surround

Think about getting a full-ATX motherboard, the micro atx ones are technically enough but they do restrict some expanding capabilities...

I think I'll consider that. Current specs;

  • Asus H97-Plus (Who knew this one existed here)

  • WD Caviar Black 1TB (Planned) + Seagate Barracuda 1TB (Owned)
  • Audio Technica ATH-M20X (This thing's got no mic...... Help!!)

A small price increase... but who cares?

I would however recommend simply getting a regular Samsung 850 Evo SSD, it's good, reliable and relatively fast, no need to spend more on it.

Also, maybe if you skipped the CPU cooler, and did some little cuts here and there you could afford a 390X? Not sure about the prices in Malaysia though.

EDIT: you might wanna find a slightly bigger PSU, the radeon GPUs are pretty 'hungry' cards :P, preferably from EVGA.

Sorry no EVGA PSUs here... As far I know of.

No  R9 390X. Bcoz it would make me pay another 100 USD (400 MYR).

Xeons are work-class CPUs. i7s are flashy but not exactly designed for a work environment. Xeons have support for things such as ECC memory, they have the iGPU removed and really OCing them ain't necessary. You can pick up an 8-core Xeon for the price of an i7 usually or slightly above.

Do you have any experience with OCing? If not, the 4790K will be a much harder thing to use.

Then it's your call really. Whichever is cheaper though the 4790K will require a Z97 board which will cost more than a standard H97 board.

R9 390 is better than a 970 - the 960 doesn't even come close to it.
