Not the CPU, but rather the chipset.

The memory controller is found on the CPU.

Yep (running off <6 hours of sleep each night past 3 days) and that's why I edited, but clearly you ninja'd my post.

Yes. You should be fine, but make sure you enable the XMP profile within the BIOS in order to take advantage of the higher speed.
