Assuming USD, you can find some R9 290s at the $250ish mark. You can find second-hand ones for cheaper.

 

Otherwise, go R9 280X.

 

For Nvidia, GTX 780 and 770 is the choice. I just found a $230 GTX 780 on eBay.

lol, personally for something to be playable, minimums have to be in the 50ish range. And thus, only the 980ti and above manage to squeak by. I was disappointed at the 970's inability to max out gta5 the way I wanted it to when I upgraded lol.

290 if you can find it. If not 380 is probably the best bet considering the much improved feature set over the 280x (even if it's raw power is a bit less).

, I feel ya brother. The real test for me will be Fallout 4, which I am not expecting to max. I'm only after better than console performance since my PC was built specifically to play Fallout 4. And I sold my PS4 so I'm kind of committed LOL.

for a used card - gtx 780 or 290x are $250 on ebay

290 is your best bet. There are a to of cards under $250 that destroy the 650 Ti though.
