Windows 10 start menu doesnt work and i cant go back to 8.1

So ive been using win 10 just fine, and today my start menu broke again, it has happened one time and was resolved easily, now ive tried everything and it doesnt work, and i cant go back to win 8.1, because  to do that i need to acess setting from, guess what, the start menu! ;-;

If anyone has a solution for both of theese problems please tell me, thanks!

Find name of exe and run it from cmd or Run for programs you need

Ive tried rebooting it a lot of times, nothing happens saddly

I am not the only one!! yesss!!

 

I fixed it on my parents computer by doing a system restore before a critical update and I fixed it on my computer by restarting it every time 

 

Right click>start Icon thing>control panel>tada 

If you want to look for files use explorer from the same place

Everytime I click on it,I am horrified it won't pop up,the last time I had the problem after restart I contacted microsoft chat support (Built into windows  ) the person basically ran sfc/ scannow and another command,while just yesterday cortana wouldn't open but a restart fixed it

For a few seconds it was working, went to the bathroom, came back, didnt work again.

Fuck my life, im gona buy a new pc and hopefully i dont have the same issue...

When I've had this happen on my machine, another symptom that appeared was that the Display Settings and Personalize menus (accessed by right-clicking on the desktop) wouldn't open and produced errors when I tried to open them.

 

What I did to fix it was open a command prompt as an administrator and run the following command:

 

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

I know the start menu is GPU rendered. And I do know that Windows 10 has a bug where the start menu doesn't show up, but I wonder if in your case, it is related to GPU drivers bug or something... Did you try install the latest drivers? How about 1 version before? (if you don't mind experimenting, that is)

Sounds like you did a upgrade install!  The shame...  You need to consider a clean install.

Not really as you don't have the choice.You need to first upgrade, then you can clean install.

Microsoft is expected to release, (all rumors), Threshold 2 (TH2), which is a massive set of updates and bug fixes for Windows 10. Bigger than the first Windows 10 update being delivered via Windows Update, and will be the first OS upgrade process (meaning like you had when you upgraded Windows 7/8 to Windows 10) that users will face, but not big enough for claiming "Windows 10.1" status. 10.1 is next year. What I am talking about is October or November release (probably at the same time as as the release of Windows 10 Mobile). So I guess you can see it as Windows 10 SP1, but not Windows 10.1
