After about 4 years or so, My Seagate hard drive wont show up on my os anymore. I do not have very important information on there but it would better if i got it back. I looked

in my BIOS and it still reads my 250gb drive. Is my HDD dead, or can i still get things back?

Things to consider

  • I've installed Windows 10  on my pc about 2 weeks ago
  • Only my SSD shows up on disk management
  • I hear a clicking noise still, but it could just be my fan, not my HDD
  • I have not tried switching SATA cables

Failing HDD I guess.

Why don't you disable or unplug the fans and check.

I mean it's Seagate drive. Possibly failing.

A dead seagate drive :D

When it starts clicking that means the head is malfunctioning so it's dead. RiP

Yeah.

But you can do some stuffs with it.

Once I opened a dead drive (clicking, but won't work), did some frankenstein things with it. It worked. But with bad sectors.

You can use HDD Sentinel software to push those bad sectors to last of the drive and still can use the drive for some months, completely fine.

But it'll only work good if the HDD Sentinel software is present.

I now have 2 Seagate drives. One is completely good. Another on is dying. I'm using that software to hold that HDD for some longer time.

since everyone seems to be ranting about seagate: 4 years is pretty normal for a hard drive of all brands.

My old WD Blue is still fine after 4 years :)

Well fck I'm screwed. My HDD is like 8 years old.

well, odd thing, the ones that make it past 4 years tend to last forever... i have a 20 year old hard drive thats still rolling along happily.

A friend has a 7-year-old Hitachi drive that still works fine lol and his 2nd Hitachi drive is about 4 years old - no errors on both.

They really make good drives.

One of my old friend's OEM PC has a Hitachi IDE drive, still no errors. Rocking well for 9 years!!!!

Good that WD acquired Hitachi now :)

I stick with WD Reds - 5400 RPM, true, but absurdly stable. Let's just say they survive being dropped without even having noticed it.
