Many people have said it's well worth waiting for the 840 Evo, but I am wanting to finish my build after ordering my motherboard.

Would anyone know where to get this early, location US?

The 840 Pro performs better, so if you really can't wait, and you have $125, get the 128GB 840 Pro.

Costcaptain.com has it and it doesn't say pre-order so you could try that. They have a bunch of different sizes of the SSD as well.

Never heard of that site, I'll take a look.

at the moment i would buy a SanDisk Ultra Plus 128/256 GB over a Samsung 840. but it always depends on the price in your region.

The ultra plus should also come with a mounting bracket unlike the 840. :)

Evo comes out this month, 8/14 according to Newegg.

Also, what is better in terms of performance, 840 / 840 Pro / 840 Evo when we're comparing 120GB sizes for boot drives?

Desktop: Intel i5-3570K (stock) | Asus Sabertooth Z77 | G.Skill RipJaw 16GB 1600MHz | Samsung 840 120GB | EVGA GTX 680 SC+ 2GB | Fractal Design R4 | Windows 8 Pro (soon to have dual boot Mac OS X)

Retina Macbook Pro : Intel i7-3840QM | 16GB 1600 MHz | 256GB SSD | Nvidia GT 650M 1GB | Mac OS X 10.8.5

Also, what is better in terms of performance, 840 / 840 Pro / 840 Evo when we're comparing 120GB sizes for boot drives?

840 120GB

Sequential read: 530 MB/s

Sequential write: 130 MB/s

Random read: 85,000 IOPS

Random write: 32,000 IOPS

840 Pro 128GB

Sequential read: 530 MB/s

Sequential write: 390 MB/s

Random read: 97,000 IOPS

Random write: 90,000 IOPS

840 Evo 120GB

Sequential read: 540 MB/s

Sequential write: 410 MB/s

Random read: 94,000 IOPS

Random write: 35,000 IOPS

The Pro is the fastest for boot. The Evo is ever so slightly slower than the Pro and a bit faster than the regular 840.

Performance-wise, it's Pro>Evo>Regular.

Looks like the one newegg is selling is just the bare drive in the box. What do you need the rest of the stuff for?
