Hi there,

I'm currently thinking about updating my current build (below) by changing the CPU/MB/Ram and I'm wondering if the performance increase is worth the price for now.

  • CPU
    i5 4670k @ 4.4Ghz
  • Motherboard
    Asus Z87-K
  • RAM
    16GB Crucial @ 1600Mhz
  • GPU
    MSI 980 Ti 6G
  • Case
    Fractal R5
  • Storage
    Crucial BX100 SSD, Samsung 850 SSD & Seagate 2TB HDD
  • PSU
    Seasonic M12II EVO '850w'
  • Cooling
    Corsair H110i GT
I'm thinking about getting a 5820k, some form of x99 motherboard with good OC'in support and most likely 2400mhz ddr4. Aesthetics are not even thought about as I'll be putting my AIO in the front and bobbing the modularvents back on the top to decrease noise.

Cheers.

Well what do you want to do with your build? Is it for gaming? Then a definite: NO! Not worth it. The increase in performance would be minor.

Do you use it for rendering etc.? Then yes. More cores and threads are usually used for that kind of workload.

PC: AMD Ryzen 7 7700 || Noctua NH-U12S SE2 || 32GB DDR5 6000 CL32  ||
|| Powercolor RX 9070 Reaper || Asus B650E-I

What do you use the PC for? if gaming, casual browsing? no point upgrading

if you do heavy rendering and stuff, then yes

Aye it's mainly used for gaming, which is why I'm guessing it's not worth it just yet. I'm presuming I'll only see like a 5-10fps increase over my current CPU/set-up then?

But to be honest I am tempted to maybe try SLI my 980ti, but then that's going down the route of me wanting to do a custom water cooling loop. I think it may be best to just wait until it's worth selling my rig and completely re-doing it.

Thank's guys.
