Hard Drive Disappears?

So for a main storage drive I have a WD Green 3TB and it has had 2 problems in the past were windows could not read from it but I ran the 8+ hour scan and it fixed it both times. Now I will be using my PC and then a steam game or something stored on it says file directory does not exsist and I check and my Hard Drive is gone. I checked cables and everything is good. After I reboot it comes back and I can read and write on the drive. Is it failing?

Just keeping this here as a So for a main storage drive I have a WD Green 3TB and it has had 2 problems in the past were windows could not read from it but I ran the 8+ hour scan and it fixed it both times. Now I will be using my PC and then a steam game or something stored on it says file directory does not exsist and I check and my Hard Drive is gone. I checked cables and everything is good. After I reboot it comes back and I can read and write on the drive. Is it failing?

 

And voila! Your HDD is deaddd!

So for a main storage drive I have a WD Green 3TB and it has had 2 problems in the past were windows could not read from it but I ran the 8+ hour scan and it fixed it both times. Now I will be using my PC and then a steam game or something stored on it says file directory does not exsist and I check and my Hard Drive is gone. I checked cables and everything is good. After I reboot it comes back and I can read and write on the drive. Is it failing?

Ummm.... have you tried formatting the drive? Don't use quick format - use the slower version. This may identify "bad sectors" and seal them off.

 

Mechanical Hard Drives, if they fail, usually do it for good and can't be read or sound like they have something broken in them. This one sounds like it has some bad sectors - this happens on occasion no big deal.
