My brothers PC has the following specs - i5 3350p, GTX670 DCUII, 8gb ram, and a 650w PSU

It is built inside of a prebuilt case but we are going to get him a new case in a few weeks. Until then would you guys say it's safe to run the PC with the side panel off because the graphics card is smothered by it and creates a ton of heat even on 100% fan speed.

Yeah it's safe. Make sure if you've got pets or something to watch them. My dog tried to lick my CPU fan running at max RPM. That would of been bad,

haha good thing the the side that would be exposed will not be accessible by our 2 dogs =)

If he can deal with the noise, then: Yes, sure :)

I'd say yes :) But don't throw something in it :)

The noise wont be a problem, currently to cool things down we have an external desk fan pumping in air through the tiny circle cutouts (Thanks asus)

Yeah it's fine. Just clean it more often as it will gain more dust in a shorter time.

I had to do it many years ago when I was waiting for a new computer case.

It's not a race to the bottom.
