I ordered a used G3258 used on ebay. $10 shipping, it arrived late today. A giant envelope is what it was shipped in aazvI7zl.jpg

I opened it up, no padding inside aside from the bubble wrap with the envelope and no anti static anything. The processor was literally just thrown in here with nothing with it.

There's no way this can be right or safe for the processor. Is it?

Probably fine. Processors are not that fragile.

Open the box and see the CPU itself, if it looks fine then test it by using it.

Stress test it, if it's stable then it should be good, not sure about its lifespan but if it's stable it should hold for some time. Hopefully long enough until you can afford better CPU.

Test it and find out. Literally no way for us to tell. Use intel IPDT and memtest86+ to test it a bit.

And maybe some aida64.

That could be a waste of $60.

Test it, you will never know!

In the least the gold surface must of gotten dirty, should I try to clean it or leave as is? Said Processor

I'd just leave it like that, because CPU is pretty fragile.

Just test it first.

Just test it. If it doesn't work, you can probably return it.

I agree, test it "as is" because if you mess with it then who's to say the cleaning didn't mess it up?

Good luck.

I don't have any alcohol to clean thermal paste off my heat sink so I'll have to pick up some tomorrow and test it. I'll update

Was it worth going second hand when the processor is so cheap in the first place?

You could just use a paper towel. Alcohol isn't always necessary for cleaning off thermal paste.

Any money saved is still money that can ultimately go towards nachos.

Update post. The CPU is in and running. Right now paired with my Hyper EVO no overclock just for testing.

Temps

Idle: 32 C

Max load: 50 C

Game Load: 45 C

Looks to be pretty stable and hasn't crashed. Cpu's are a lot more durable than you think.

If it were an AMD CPU there would be a great chance of bent pins but Intel's CPUs don't have them
