PSU trouble

Go to solution Solved by kameshss,

Time to change that crappy PSU.

Get an EVGA G2/GS series power supply.

Ok so my desktop has been crashing a lot recently (screen completely freezes and can't move keyboard or mouse but computer still running in the background), leading to plenty of troubleshooting, windows reset etc. Noticed in both Speccy and HWMonitor my +12v rail is running at about +7.87V. The model is a CX600. I don't currently have anything else to test the voltage. Is this most likely the source of my problems?

Gigabyte 970A-D3 Rev 2.0

AMD FX-8320

Hyper 212 Evo Cooler

Sapphire HD 7850

Samsung 840 Pro Series

1TB Seagate HDD

8(2x4GB)Corsair Vengeance Ram 1600mhz

I'm almost certain it's not cooling that's the issue. Have both an intake and exhaust fan plus the cooler on my CPU. CPU, GPU and HDD temps all low 30 degrees celcius or below.

Is it really that bad? I hadn't heard they had much of a reputation.

Yeah the cx have horrible reputation as I recently discovered. But I havent run in any problems with my cx750m yet lol. But I would replace it eventually for something more reliable. So even I guess even if its not a psu problem you can upgrade. up to you tho but no reason spending money where its not needed

corsair AX series, not the cx series. cx is a rebrand of a terrible 3rd party company

My system is due an upgrade fairly soon anyway so it's not too much of an issue. It's not as if PSU technology is on the rise atm anyway, think I'll just do as an earlier poster said and get a EVGA GS series. Thanks for the replies! :)

Just one last thing. Is it safe to continue using my PC until the new PSU arrives? It can go hours (sometimes days) before crashing and I haven't had any collateral issues up to this point, but I don't want to risk frying the rest of my components.
