For gaming, Z97. For rendering, X99. (If for whatever reason you don't even want to consider z97, then X99 for either....I don't see enough of a cost difference between a 5820k and a 6700k to warrant going Z170.)

/that psu is beyond overkill btw

Z170 is not really worth, X99 is better, now the question is are you gaming on it? Then maybe think Z97, Z170 is not the best improvement, the benchmarks compared to Sandy/Ivy bridge are pretty close a normal consumer will not see a huge difference, with that said, one list is private and the other one, the PSU is no necessary not even if you were running a Tri-sli.

The X99 build is marked private. At least that is what pccasegear tells me.

Z170 build has a psu that would power two of those systems. It is beyond overkill. If the plan is to add a second gpu look for something around 1000W, otherwise go for a 750W psu.

If this is a gaming build go for the Z170 platform. Contrary to current myth, it is worth it. It performs about 5% better than Haswell Refresh at same clock. It has a newer generation of memory that is faster. It supports more PCIe 3.0 lanes for things like 4-lane M.2 drives (up to 4 times faster than SATA III) and USB 3.1 ports.

What case?

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
