Power line or switch

I'm trying to help my fried with his network.He has his PC hooked up straight from his fibre to Ethernet adapter. Now he wants to use his PC in another room. There are a couple of options: connect it using a 15 year old switch with Ethernet cable(having a couple of extra ports in case he wants to use another computer) or use power line Ethernet. He only uses internet for internet browsing.

100 MB/S up and down, power-line is 5 years old and I don't know specs of the switch.

the specs of the switch are quite key here, because old powerlines are generally TERRIBRO.

 

ask the guy, specs are usually "vaguely" labeled on the bottom somewhere.

speaking of switch, my old switch has finally died yesterday

 

anyway, the good thing about switch is there's no interferences with other appliances

each port had independent connection, so let say port 2 going bad, other port usually works just fine

other 24port switch I have, have only 4 working port at the end of life.

 

if you still want to spend something with the money, get 5port gigabit switch, it's affordable ( some brand even cheaper than a powerline)

you will get all benefit, higher bandwith, low latency, and low cost, and futureproof just incase he get better speed more than 100mbps someday.
