My birthday is coming, so you know what time it is! TIME TO BUY DUMB SHIT ONLINE! :DDDDDDAaskjdasd

So, i've got a Compaq CQ56 that i plan to upgrade. Currently i have a 5400RPM HDD and 2GB of RAM, and i was wondering would a Kingston V300 boost this puppy a little bit, along with 4gb of ram?

It is a bit sluggish on program opening/copying/installing.

I'm on Linux.

Primary: Lenovo T61 / Intel Core2Duo T7200 @ 2.2GHz / 3GB DDR2 / NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M / Fedora 22 <<<< THE WHITE KNIGHT

Secondary: Compaq Presario CQ56 / AMD V130 @ 2.3GHz / 2GB DDR3 / AMD Radeon HD 4250 / Windows 8.1 <<< THE FORGOTTEN HERO

How much storage are you looking to use?

If it's not much at all, the Corsair Force LS 60GB model goes for relatively cheap nowadays.

The 120GB drives are pretty cheap here, 50-ish bucks.

I would go with a Mushkin Eco2, to be honest. Those things stomp all over the V300, which is kind of the satan-red-headed-stepchild-embarrassment SSD Who Must Not Be Named. For their price, they're actually up there with Micron's drives. I'm considering picking one up for shoving games and stuff onto when I'm in a hurry.

Corsair drives are pretty good. I certainly recommend them over Kingston's V300 series, especially given the new flash that is being used. It will be faster than conventional hard drives, but you can certainly do better than Kingston's drives nowadays, outside of their HyperX brand.

Yeah, but there is the Availability problem. Its either 840's for 20 bucks more, which i dont have, or V300

How bout this one?

The Samsung 840? Pretty good drives. I run the 850 EVO, myself.

I would personally suggest the 850 EVO if you can spring out a little bit more. If not, the 840 is a good option as well.

SSD made a big difference on my laptop, which is older than yours, but I'd expect a smaller delta when you're using both a light weight OS, only 4GB of RAM and when you've got a single core processor.

Wouldn't you prefer a new HP stream instead of spending $120 to beef up the CQ56?

Regardless, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ^__^
