When you add up the costs of the motherboard and cooler needed for the pentium its about the same as the i3.

If you're really on a budget, you could OC it with a stock cooler and live dangerously.

Also, you need to buy a mobo with the i3 too..... same with any processor.....

It's only like 113 USD for the 4170.

Which is a dealbreaker for some people on a strict budget.

And the i3 would still be better regardless of the overclock achieved on the pentium. Of course if the game is only using 1-2 cores it'll prefer the pentiums higher clock but the i3 will offer a better experience in more games and everyday use.

Can't forget half the people here are kids with no jobs. I agree with you though.

How the hell can you afford to even look at these parts without a job. Honestly nearly everyone of my summer paychecks went to building my PC.

You don't really need that good of a CPU cooler to OC the Pentium to be honest.

They're spoiled by their parents. I'm sure some older teens here have jobs though.

Maybe i worded it incorrectly? The $50 difference between an i3 w/ the same mobo and pentium w/ same mobo is well worth it. I don't know why people can't simply save up $50 for a couple of weeks to get a better experience. Unless you only play games that use 1-2 cores the pentium is useless. And buying cooling for it puts you deeper into the hole.
