Single GTX 980 ti for Ultrawide 1440p ?

Tai Tran

Is this card a good choice or is it a little bit too powerful for 3440x1440 ? I'm thinking about getting the Acer Predator XR341CK 75Hz. However, I watch some videos on Youtube from this channel called Digital Foundry and it seems like 980 ti put out less fps on normal 1440p than ultrawide 1440p. Isn't ultrawide 1440p suppose to have more pixels ? (Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm talking about BF4 specifically)

Here are the links:

Normal 1440p :

Ultrawide 1440p :

Do you guys suggest any other card ?

p/s: I choose ultrawide 1440p because I like it more than normal 1440p and of course 1440p. I also can't afford enough "juice" for 1440p 144hz. Just saying so we can keep this post on point.

21:9 1440p has 880 more horizontal pixels than 16:9 1440p. A single 980ti is not "too powerful"; if anything it's an ideal pair.

It'll definitely run it, but for the performance you'll get in relation to the price you'll be paying (GPU or Monitor setup) it's not worth it. I'd suggest waiting for holiday discounted pricing.

As far as I can tell from those two videos, the fps on normal is higher than on uw, so I don't get where you are getting the less fps from? I looked at Assassin's Creed as that was what I could find real quick.

Anyways, I have a 980, trust me go for the Ti, you won't regret it. :) Don't get me wrong, the 980 is enough, but if I could unload my 980, I'd buy a Ti right now.

Yes, of course. But you cant compare 2 different Games on 2 different Displays ...

In those two videos, they're not using the same settings for BF4 according to the overlay in the upper left corners.

1440p: ultra, 4xMSAA

time stamp about 7:04

ultrawide: high, post-AA

time stamp about 5:06
