Cannot access Win8.1

So I installed Win10 onto my SSD.
***I still have win8.1 on my SSHD***

But now I cannot access 8.1, even if I remove the SSD. No matter what boot-order I have, OR what drive I select to boot to.


The closest I get is "There is something wrong with the OS. Try reconnecting old drives", but I shouldn't have to; all of the OS should be on that SSHD.

Did you have the SSHD plugged in when you installed Windows 10 on the SSD? This might be causing you problems.

 

I assume you didn't change hardware apart from getting the SSD?

I already had the SSD in the computer; didn't have it in use. I made sure to put win10 on the SSD; this is confirmed by the fact that looking at the SSHD on win10, it has ALL of the files I had before the install.

Connect everything as you had it before (when you did the installation) and try to run the windows boot recovery assistant, if cant boot nothing at all use a media recovery disk or a windows installation disk/ISO on a usb

Friend of mine is suggesting something similar; they said remove all drives but the SSHD and run an 8.1 recovery disk; problem is, I DON'T HAVE A DISK DX

Absolutely yes, use it and when this screen appears, select repair your computer

there will be some options, select advanced options

and then select automatic repair:

it should detect automatically what is wrong and you should be able to boot into windows THIS COULD TAKE A WHILE TO FIX so be patient

I don't know exactly what I did, but I'm back on win8.1.

I forced it to a windows boot manager of sorts, made it think 10 didn't work, and it gave an option of 8.1

Now to PROPERLY install 10...
