MSI GS70 Stealth 2.5 Year Experience

GaZinggEr

Hello, I have the entry level GS70 with a GTX 765M, i received this laptop as a gift 2 x-masses ago, it was bought from NCIX in Mister Sauga, i used it mostly for school (word processing, excel, AutoCAD, etc.), yes, it is complete overkill, i know.  it was not gamed on too frequently, i have a desktop for that. i have a 17 inch laptop backpack for carrying it around. this computer was treated with respect.

i am not telling you about all the pros because every other review talks about them, as for the cons: this is my experience.

initially i noticed that the fans are very loud, i dismissed this because of the thinness, but it has always annoyed me. it is worth noting that this is during the winter in Ontario, it was -30 outside.

there is back light bleed and a few dead pixels.

the computer came with a considerable amount of crap ware.

Battery life is 4 hours on a good day, average is 2. this is not good enough for school.

6 months in with normal use, the hard drive outright dies, i send it in for repair under warranty - comes back working as per usual.

20 months in, the keyboard stops responding, in and out of windows, i cannot get into the BIOS, when i plugged in an external keyboard it would work normally. i sent for repair under warranty - comes back working as per usual.

i personally gave up on this computer as the battery life and size was an issue, and passed it on to my brother, i bought myself a UX305.

24 months in, when the computer was closed, the screen did not sit flush with the rest of the unit, i dismissed it as shotty build quality.

as of typing this, the hinge has broke, the screen cannot be opened or shut without it making cracking noises. the bezel has come apart around the affected area.

this has been my long term experience with a GS70, i am pretty sure that i received a lemon.

MSI's warranty has been very good, both repairs were covered with no questions asked.

That really doesn't help!! since just focusing on the negatives makes it sound like a piece of shit.. since you said nothing good!

And the "its too big, battery life is too low so I give up on it" is redundant as the laptop is not suitable for your usage

I appreciate that your experience has been fraught with issues, I just think a review should be fairly balanced and consider others usage

I don't know what this kind of people do.

I've a friend that's like you, he breaks down all his laptops, he has one withouth screen and another one with it hanging (but still works :/), and I don't want to talk about the rest of laptop's body.
