Question about brands

Go to solution Solved by TheArmChairGuru,

Generally you shouldn't worry, but here are some facts, feel free to google the subjects for yourself (I do):

CPU

AMD cpu will generally run on the hotter side compared to intel, but are more inexpensive (I use a liquid cooler on mine but only due to preference, and it's an AMD)

Intel architecture is generally faster when gaming, but you're not going to notice it with the naked eye, especially paired with a GPU as it takes most of the workload.

GPU

Years ago (even just a few) it mattered, now it doesn't, just pick one you like and maybe has the color scheme you want to go with your build.

As for what range, pick what you can afford out of the newer models, because newer architecture is better than older.

Just build it, probably won't be your last build if you want to build one in the first place.

Enjoy it, because lots of joy (and heartache from troubleshooting) are on the way.

:D

I plan on building a PC soon. I'm still fairly new to this so I'm not ready to start picking out parts to buy or anything but I do have one question. I don't know if this is a legit question or just a question that someone inexperienced like myself would ask :P

My question is about AMD vs Nvidia or AMD vs Intel. Would I ever have any problems with compatibility with one of the brands? I feel like I've heard that some programs run better with a specific brand and other programs might be really buggy or incompatible with a specific brand. Is this something I should worry about, or is it a load of bull?

Overall, that's a load of bull.

For games, some can take advantage of Nvidia-proprietary tech and do better on some Nvidia cards, but not all, and it's not always a huge difference.

For regular programs, if you're into video editing, Intel's hyperthreading means you can often squeeze more power out of the (more expensive) Intel chips.

But for overall "compatibility" no.
