IPS or TN

Go to solution Solved by Zayzo,

do you think the benefit outweighs the other tasks the computer is used for?

One IPS for work and one TN for games. Easy.

So the way the computer will be  used is 60% of the time i will very likely be playing e sports titles mainly league of legends and a small amount of csgo 30% for other titles like witcher 3 tomb raider and lets say the last 10% is for work such as rendering/editing videos or using photoshop to make some artwork, been wanting to get into the digital scene of art   for a while now

I would say IPS because its useful for most of the tasks you want to do.

Maybe for CSGO you might want that extra responsiveness and 144hz that TN might provide but since thats only a small fraction of what you do.

What resolution, and what refresh rate are you looking for? and what budget do you have?

But 90% of the time, go for IPS.

Don't get caught up with response times! In modern days the quoted response time means next to nothing.

There are only a few situations where you would need to get a TN Panel over an IPS (Even for the most hard core of fast paced gamers), such as 1080p 144Hz where no monitor currently exists which is IPS.

Cs:GO and League benefit from 144hz and you can only get TN 144hz for 1080p. I'd go for tn 144hz or at least a tn with a good response time.

yeah im not a huge fan of csgo mainly play it with friends i do play league a ton though and do yout hink the responsiveness would help there? the workload for randering/editing is exactly huge but i do see ips being beneficial with games such as gta5 and witcher

Why not just get 2 monitors then?

One 144hz TN 1080p and one IPS 1080p. The LoL and CSGO experience is FAR better on 144hz.

so run it for those two games? thats something i didnt think of, wow and i was going to run two monitors anyways( one main and the other was just gonna be a tv screen or something)

TN isn't really any more responsive than IPS, at least, not in any meaningful way. Response times are marketing statistics that don't even have a standard for measuring, so they're unreliable. They're also quoted in GtG, so for anything other than that, they're completely useless.

The benefits of IPS far outweight the "drawbacks" of it, both for games and editing workloads.

I don't know. I much prefer IPS for my work but i also MUCH prefer my TN 144hz panel for games.

Well, that's the refresh rate, so it's understandable. If you compared a TN and IPS monitor with the same resolution and refresh rate, IPS would be the much better experience if you ask me.

For instance, I much prefer my TN 4K monitor over my IPS 1080p monitors for gaming, but that's not because it's TN, it's because it's 4K. Same could be said with the 144Hz, right?

Just saying getting both monitors and just use them both at the same time, you can game on the 144Hz and do some modelling work on the IPS one :)

Expensive i know, but it's the best of worlds and cheaper than a 144Hz IPS panel.
